What Does Lewis Hamilton Moving To Scuderia Ferrari Say About Personal Growth?
I should preface by saying that this is one of the greatest transfers in F1 history
Just before I went to bed yesterday, I opened X to a series of posts confirming Lewis Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes for 2025.
To say that it caught the world by surprise is an understatement.
Lewis Hamilton has always expressed loyalty towards the Silver Arrows, so to see him break ties before the start of the new season was a pretty big shock to process.
Nonetheless, there are several comparisons that can be drawn between his decision to pursue a new challenge with each of us looking for the same.
1. Comfort Can Be Jarring
Once you’ve been in a position for a long period of time, it can destabilise your ambition.
In this case, post the 2021 season which ended in controversial circumstances, Lewis Hamilton has undoubtedly expressed concerns about his team’s ability to deliver him a car that can get him wins.
Given how iconic the Scuderia Ferrari is, and not to mention that it’s every driver’s dream to race for the Prancing Horse, it’s only natural that he’d have been tempted to take the offer seriously this time round.
2. Opportunities Don’t Come By Often
When an opportunity comes by that you really can’t refuse, it’s difficult to justify staying in the same place.
Now, I have nothing against people that decide to stay in the same place for long periods of time. If anything, I have even more respect for you as it’s a difficult thing to do in this day and age.
But, the point being is that every decision involves a little bit of risk. And sometimes that risk can be really worthwhile, as it has been for Lewis Hamilton when he moved from Mclaren to Mercedes all these years ago.
3. Time Will Get Us All In The End
No one can work forever.
We all have a limited amount of time, and the reality is most of us can be replaced. None of us are inherently special — we are all very similar in many respects.
So don’t show loyalty to workplaces that can and will let you go if it benefited them. Do what’s right for you.
